Headboards

Q.   How does the headboard fit onto the bed?

A.   As standard our headboards come fitted with strong plywood moulded struts which attach securely onto the plastic headed bolts which you should find located at the back of your divan base.  The fixing points on your divan bed base should be found 6 ins in from the outside edge.  Sometimes they are marked with a small sticker.  If your bed base is new, you may find that the fabric has yet to be pierced to accept the plastic headed bolts.  Our advice is to feel for a small depression under the material to locate the bolt holes.

As part of our service, headboards that are ordered with plywood moulded struts will be fitted by our expert delivery team in your room of choice and the packaging will be taken away for reuse/recycling.

Please note, the plywood moulded struts will NOT give a flush to the wall finish and some movement in the headboard may occur.  If a flush to the wall finish is important to you, please add an optional wall mounting pack to your order.

Helpfully, we make all of our headboards with the facility to order and fit a wall mounting pack in retrospect if you decide the plywood moulded struts are not suitable in your circumstances once you have taken delivery of your order.

We generally recommend using a wall mounting pack for kingsize to emperor headboards and those that are 70 cms or taller from the mattress up.

Q.   How does the headboard fit onto the wall?

A.  Alternatively we can supply an Easy Fit Wall Mounting Pack for a cost of £29.00.

Please note, our delivery team are not able to drill into customers' walls, therefore wall mounted headboards will have to be fitted by the customer. This is not a difficult operation and our wall mounting packs come with full instructions.

The wall mounting pack is a french cleat arrangement made of MDF. Three small blocks are pre-mounted to the back of your headboard and are offered over a long batten which attaches to your wall.  The headboard is held to the wall snuggly by the outer blocks and the central block provides safety when installing the headboard.  When positioned correctly, the centre bracket should not touch the wall batten.

Wall mounting is highly recommended for kingsize to emperor headboards and those that are 70 cms or taller from the mattress up.

Q.   Can I wall mount my headboard if I have plasterboard walls?

A.   Yes you can. In order to do this, you will need to purchase special wall fixings for plasterboard walls, we recommend either Metal Cavity Anchors or Spring Toggles. Click here to view our recommendations.

--------------------

Q.   Where do I measure the height of the headboard from?

A.   All our headboard height measurements are taken from the top of the mattress to the top of the headboard.

To get an idea of the overall height, we suggest you place 2 small pieces of blue tack at the stated height, and run a length of string from corner to corner. Having replaced pillows, cushions etc, this will allow you to stand well back from your bed and will give you a good idea of the end result.

--------------------

Q.   Why are your headboards wider than my bed base?

A.   We make our headboards slightly oversized, so that once your bed is dressed with pillows, duvet, throw etc - the headboard doesn't get 'lost' behind it all! All of our headboards are built with fixings to fit on UK standard size beds.

Read more on choosing the correct headboard size here.

Q.   How do I assemble my Winged Headboard?

A.  For instructions on how to assemble our Winged Headboards, please click here.

Please note, our Winged Headboards are fitted with a Wall Mounting Pack. We will also supply Plywood Moulded Struts for you to modify and fit should you not be able to secure your headboard to the wall. You will need to remove the Wall Mounting Pack fitted to the back of the headboard and install the struts. The struts should NOT be secured to the bed. The full weight of the headboard should sit on the floor on its wings. The bed should then be pushed into position against the struts, thereby holding the headboard in position. Take care when pulling the bed away from the wall to ensure that you are holding the headboard upright to avoid it toppling forward.

--------------------

Q.   What are your headboards made from?

A.   Furniture grade particle board, hardwood and softwood, Combustion Modified High Resilience (CMHR) foam, metal fixing components, 5 ounce Dacron wrap, plus your chosen fabric.

Finally, if you’re wanting to use our plywood struts these are made with 18mm plywood moulded strut board.

--------------------

Q.   Can my headboard be a different size to ones you offer on the website?

A.   Yes, we can and do make headboards in many shapes and sizes. Give us a ring on 01291 628216 and a member of our team will be very happy to discuss your requirements and provide you with a quote.

--------------------

Q.   Does 'Self Piped and Self Buttoned' mean I will have to pipe it myself?

A.   No, self piped and self buttoned means that the piping will be in the same fabric as the headboard, as opposed to contrast piping in which case piping and buttoning is in House Cotton Vanilla.

--------------------

Q.   Do the Harris and Caldey removable cover headboards have 'a lining cloth'?

A.   Yes, all our Harris and Caldey headboards have a Fire Retardant Calico lining underneath the loose cover.

--------------------

Q.   Can I buy an additional cover for my headboard?

A.   Yes you can, click here to view the range.

--------------------

Q.   Do I need Fabric Protector, and what does it do?

A.   We do recommend you purchase Fabric Protector, especially for lighter coloured fabrics.

Fabric Protector seals the fibres of the fabric, repelling all oil and water based stains from upholstery. This means your fabric will be easier to maintain and clean in the future, as it retains dirt on the surface, instead of it soaking into the fabric.

You can buy Fabric Protector by clicking here

--------------------

Q.   I have lost my Wall Mounting Pack Instructions, help!

A.   Don't panic, you can view the Wall Mounting Instructions here.

--------------------

Q.   Do you make bespoke headboards?

A.   We do! If you are looking for a unique headboard, whether that be a design tweak to an existing model or a completely brand new shape and style, we can help. We have a brilliant blog post that explains the whole process in just a few simple steps.

--------------------

Beds

Q.   Why do your upholstered bed sizes differ from the normal sizes. (e.g. ‘double’ is normally 4ft 6ins wide and ours state 4ft 10ins).

A.   All our beds are designed to carry standard sized mattresses.

If you look at the dimensions our Jersey Divan you will see that is a standard size as the mattress sits “on top”of the divan base (see image below).

Our other fully upholstered beds are all designed for the mattress to sit “inside” the frame of the bed. In order for this to happen the overall size has to be a little larger (see image below).

So in summary if you order a standard Double Bed from us then you need a standard Double Bed Mattress, the same with Kingsize etc.

Is your bedroom short on space?

All our upholstered beds are made to order, and so if you would like a bed that is smaller overall in width and length we can raise the mattress platform to sit flush with the top of the surround. If you require an upholstered bed with a 'flush top' rather than an inset mattress please contact us on 01291 628216.

Fabrics

Q.   You sent me a swatch of a fabric, but now I can't find it on your website. What do I do?

A.   We are continually updating and improving our fabric collection. If we have sent you a swatch of a fabric and you are now unable to find it, you can check out our blog post about our latest fabric overhaul. If you still cannot find your fabric, give us a call on 01291 628216.

--------------------

Q.   Can I buy more of my fabric?

A.   Yes, if you click here, we sell fabric separately. All prices shown are per metre of fabric. At the checkout, increase quantity to amount of meterage desired.

--------------------

Q.   How do I care for my velvet headboard?

A.   Velvet and pile fabrics can sometimes gain pressure marks from packaging do to the plush nature of the fabric, but they  are very good at recovering from these types of marks. We recommend that you leave the item alone for around a week and then if the marks are still present you should use a steam iron approx. 2ins away from the fabric and follow up with a gentle brush and leave to recover.

--------------------

Brochures

Q.   Can you please send me a brochure?

A.   Our brochure is designed to give you a little bit of information about the people behind The Headboard Workshop and give you an overview of us. We offer a huge range of headboards, beds and fabrics that have a number of pricing variations so that putting it in to one brochure is near impossible. We have designed our website in such a way that you can see everything that we offer right here. However, if you have no access to the internet or would still like a brochure, please give us a call us on 01291 628216.

Customers Own Material

Q.   Can I supply my own fabric?

A.   Certainly! Once you have selected your size of headboard, ottoman or valance, and model if applicable, simply select the 'Customers Own Material' swatch.

--------------------

Q.   How does it work?

A.   It's quite simple actually! We have written a detailed blog post here, explaining the whole process from how much fabric you need and where to send it, through to fire retardant treatments.

--------------------

Q.   How much fabric will I need?

A.   You can find out the fabric requirement and instructions on the product page under the 'Customers Own Material' section.

--------------------

Q.   Will my fabric need to be joined?

A.   If you are using a directional fabric (i.e. a patterned fabric that needs to be run down the roll rather than railroaded), on a headboard that is wider than the width of your chosen fabric, it will need to be joined. We make the joins as subtle as possible, which are usually placed on the left and right hand side of the headboard (never in the middle!).

Printed Velvets - If you are sending in a printed velvet, please be aware that these fabrics are made by printing the dye directly on to the surface of the pile and usually on a light coloured base cloth. Occasionally this dye may not reach through to the base cloth if the pile is deep and so there is the possibility that when the fabric is joined and pulled taught for upholstery, this cloth will show along the join.

--------------------

Q.   Where do I send my fabric?

A.   Whether your fabric is being sent directly from the supplier or from yourself, could you please ensure that your surname and order reference number (which you will receive when you place your order) are displayed clearly with your fabric. We also ask that you indicate the correct side of the fabric and sate any special instructions. You then send it to:

The Headboard Workshop Ltd,
Units 10 - 11 St David's Industrial Estate
Blackwood
Gwent
NP12 3SW.

We will confirm receipt of your fabric and contact you for further instruction if required. Once we have all the information for your order, your item(s) will then be released into production. If you have any queries, give us a call on 01291 628216.

--------------------

Q.   Does my fabric need to be fire proofed?

A.   All fabrics must comply with Fire Regulation BS5852 for Cigarette & Match.

There are 3 ways to achieve this:

1. The most cost efficient way to do this is with your fabric supplier, they will ensure that it is accompanied by the necessary certificates.

2. If no certificate is supplied and your material is less than 74% natural fibres, we can arrange fire retardancy treatment for you. The charge for this is £25.00 per metre plus a £30.00 postage and administration fee. Fabric treatment usually takes about 10 days and this may extend your delivery date by that amount. This can be arranged with us via email once you have placed your order.

3. If your fabric has a composition that is 75% or more natural fibre, it may be possible to use a fire retardant interliner. We would need proof of the fabric composition when you send it to us. The interliner charges are as follows;

Headboards

Single, Small Double and Double: £59

Valances

Q.   How do I order a valance in the correct size and drop?

A.   It's very easy! Firstly you order a valance based on your bed size, after which you will receive an email to confirm your order. It is at this stage you will then be contacted for the specific measurements such as length, width and the drop you would like. Once these have been checked and confirmed, we will get underway with making your valance.

Others

Q.   Do I need to return my swatches?

A.  Pre-Covid, that would be greatly appreciated and would help to keep our swatch costs down. However, during these uncertain times we cannot accept returned swatches, but where possible we would encourage you to give them to a friend.

--------------------

Q.   Do you offer trade discounts?

A.   Only to trade customers who have purchased from us on a number of occasions and continue to purchase on a regular basis.
