FR Advice

All Customers Own Material provided to us for upholstery must be compliant with fire retardancy laws and regulations.

If your fabric is NOT inherently fire retardant to cigarette AND match standard, there are some things that we can help with.

All fabrics must comply with Fire Regulation BS5852 for Cigarette & Match.

There are 3 ways to achieve this:

1. The most cost efficient way to do this is with your fabric supplier, they will ensure that it is accompanied by the necessary certificates, which should be forwarded to us for our records along with the fabric itself.

2. If your fabric has a composition that is 75% or more natural fibre, it may be possible to use a fire retardant interliner.  We would need proof of the fabric composition when you send it to us – a simple link to it on the manufacturers website is satisfactory.

Current interliner charges range from £59 to £179 depending on size and model.

See our handy list below of fabric abbreviations to help in determining the firbe composition of your COM.

3. If no certificate is supplied and your material is less than 75% natural fibres, we can arrange fire retardancy treatment for you. Fabric treatment usually takes about 10 days and this may extend your delivery date by that amount. This can be arranged with us via email once you have placed your order.

Current FR treatment charges are £25.00 per metre plus a £30.00 postage and administration fee.   Please note, a minimum of 3m of material in one piece is required when FR treating.

On receipt of your fabric, we will contact you for further instruction if required and then your order will be released into production.

Commercial Properties – Crib 5

Further FR treatment is required if your upholstery items will be used in a commercial setting.  This is called Crib 5 Treatment and can be achieved with a crib5 interliner (on fabrics 75% or more natural fibres) or by treatment (for fabrics that are less than 75% natural fibre).
