Ever looked at magazines and websites and thought – How can I make my bed look as good?
Laura Kelway-Bamber, Head stylist at The Headboard Workshop, reveals her top tips that she uses to make our show room sets inviting, cosy and camera ready!
Take a leaf out of Laura’s book and replicate her essential elements ‘recipe’ to create your very own swoon worthy room.
The Main attraction
Your bed and headboard should form the centre piece of your design. It’s usually the largest element of the room. Consequently, paying particular attention to the bed seems the most logical place to start. Usually, it’s the one piece of furniture you won’t change too often and represents the bulk of your investment.
Therefore, choosing a bed with classic styling will see you through many trends and stand the test of time.
A fully upholstered bed such as our Kingsize Lismore bed is an elegant and luxurious selection that is sure to get you off to a good start.
Similarly, opting for a Divan bed base and stunning headboard opens up an exciting opportunity to create your own unique look and feel to your room.
Remember, scale is the biggest factor to this and your bed should suit your available space.
Making the bed
All beds benefit from the same, tried and tested, no fail formula.
Opt for white sheets, pillow shams and duvet covers.
There’s something about crisp white linens that just scream hotel chic. This provides a blank canvas for you to add texture, colour and detail with accessories that can be changed with the trends or the season.
Inject some visual interest by using a throw, blanket or runner at the foot end of the bed and by using scatter cushions to add a layered effect.
Consequently, Laura recommends having two sets of linens – one for the bed whilst the other is being laundered. This will keep your room looking pristine at all times.
Finally, a made to measure valance is the perfect accompaniment to a divan base for some seriously swanky tailoring.
Add a rug
Add a rug under your bed that finishes in line with the outer edge of your bedside tables to anchor the bed into your scheme.
It will add effortless luxury and subtly draw attention to the sleeping area.
Make it personal
It’s your room and it should reflect you and your family. Above all, incorporating family photographs or momentos of your travels together will add the personalisation that every room needs to make it feel cosy.
Often using black and white photographs in her room sets, Laura easily creates a feeling of intimacy and ‘real life’ which makes your bedroom uniquely yours and immediately inviting.
The ultimate in luxury
If you have the space, adding an upholstered ottoman at the foot of the bed will add a touch of glamour. Equally, a chaise or ottoman under your window would work well. For an ottoman that is designed to fit your size of bed, check out the options available. We also love our Rockfield stool and Penterry Chair for pure luxury.
Last of all, using your smart phone, take pictures of your room and adjust things where necessary. The camera never lies, but, it does see things differently to you as it only has one lens – not two. Looking at your room with one eye closed will help you to envisage what the camera will see … a top tip that you might not find anywhere else!
